How did you learn about Art of Hosting (please add the date and place) and what attracted you to it?
I heard about Art of Hosting years ago. I'm attracted to it because I'm in the same broad field as AoH.
Tell us about your experience with Art of Hosting as part of your life and work. What would you say your competence in it is? (new, starting practitioner, experienced practitioner, steward)
I suppose I am an experienced practitioner, having held conferences utilizing AoH processes like World Cafe, Open Space, Conversation Cafe, Appreciative Inquiry, etc. -- though I was the conference director and always worked with more experience facilitators. I am the co-founder and director of National Coalition for Dialogue & Deliberation (NCDD), which is a national nonprofit network for innovators in dialogue, deliberation, conflict resolution, and public engagement.
What is the primary field/topic/focus in your hosting work?
My work involves creating spaces where dialogue and deliberation practitioners and scholars can learn from each other, provide each other with mutual support, and work together to move our field forward.
Sandy, your name rings a bell, have seen it many times in conversations. Well, I would think the majority here have done an AoH training, or are familiar with some of the participatory techniques, or some other holistic approaches of working. Some might also be fans of various degrees. Would actually be fun to do some mapping one day, and see where people's interest and practice mostly lies!
Welcome to the on-line Art of Hosting community, Sandy! If you upload a photo, we can also "see" you here. Join into the conversations, and look around the resources, there are plenty to deepen your practice.
