Profile Information

How did you learn about Art of Hosting (please add the date and place) and what attracted you to it?
I first learned about the Art of Hosting online, through a variety of e-mail lists, probably around 2004.

However, I was not able to actually EXPERIENCE an "Art of Hosting" gathering until I attended the Art of Participatory Leadership in NYC, in June of 2010.

What attracted me to Art of Hosting, is that it included a variety of emergence-based practices I already knew and loved..(Open Space Technology, Circle practice, Appreciative Inquiry...) and at the same time, it emphasized the underlying attitudes/principles/assumptions that these various practices shared in common.

I especially appreciated that AoH is offering these trainings to a wide audience, as a way of developing our larger "social capacity" to host conversations that matter...
Tell us about your experience with Art of Hosting as part of your life and work. What would you say your competence in it is? (new, starting practitioner, experienced practitioner, steward)
I use several of the forms that are included in Art of Hosting, in my professional work as a facilitator and organization development consultant. I also use some of these approaches in my volunteer work.
What is the primary field/topic/focus in your hosting work?
While the topics vary, I work primarily at a local level, with small businesses, local government agencies, non-profit organizations, and community groups.
Where do you live/work?
New England, USA
Would you like to share a web address?
Are there interests/passions that you'd like to share?
I am interested in helping to build bridges between various related communities of practice. My primary communities of practice include Focusing practice (Eugene Gendlin's work) and Dynamic Facilitation (Jim Rough's work). I am certified to teach in both of these areas.

Then there are various other practices that I also feel a strong connection with, and in which I have varying degrees of experience and training. These include Future Search, World Cafe, Open Space Technology, Theory U, Internal Family Systems Therapy, and Dialogue Mapping, among others.
