How did you learn about Art of Hosting (please add the date and place) and what attracted you to it?
I attended an AoH training workshop near Canberra in August 2010.
Tell us about your experience with Art of Hosting as part of your life and work. What would you say your competence in it is? (new, starting practitioner, experienced practitioner, steward)
I am a starting practitioner in AoH but I have some experience facilitating conversations - most recently for the Canberra Conversations series (see below). My background in my 'day job' is in science communication and that is were became interested in dialogue; there has been a huge shift in thinking in science communication over the past 10 years away from a teaching /deficit (monologue) approach to dialogue amongst scientists, policy makers and the public.
What is the primary field/topic/focus in your hosting work?
Hosting community public meetings (see information on Canberra Conversations at the Chorus of Women the web address below). In these events we use artistic expression (in the form of original songs) to connetct with the dramatic and emotional aspects of the topic and help people to connect with their common humanity.
Are there interests/passions that you'd like to share?
My passion is to help change our public discourse to one were proper conversations can happen that seek wisdom on the big issues that face humanity such as climate change and human rights
