Profile Information

How did you learn about Art of Hosting (please add the date and place) and what attracted you to it?
The Wasan Dialogues on the Soul of Place. Wasan Island, Muskoka, Canada, Spring 2014.

An immersive multi-day adventure co-hosted by Michelle Holliday and Michael Jones; fellow participants included Vanessa Reid, Lisa Gravel, Juan Carlos Londono, Anne Paré, Peter Pula and others
Tell us about your experience with Art of Hosting as part of your life and work. What would you say your competence in it is? (new, starting practitioner, experienced practitioner, steward)
Experienced practitioner. Convenor of, consultant to and participant in many gatherings, groups and processes locally and internationally. This work builds on 25+ years of related experiences, formal and informal. AoH has been a deepening and gathering of practices, principles and fellow practitioners I've been seeking forever.
What is the primary field/topic/focus in your hosting work?
Local resilience and thriving, in many forms, in my home community. Convening that invites participatory leadership, creates sustained co-creative community action, and (in due time) generative governance. Connecting and narrating similar efforts locally, nationally and internationally.

I was co-founder of Peterborough Dialogues (which introduced AoH here in 2015). Current focused projects include Peterborough Pollinators (a grassroots-up pollinator habitat group that has been an exceptional living laboratory for emergent practice, now a winner of a series of civic and environmental awards), Reimagine Peterborough (a citizens movement that is widening and deepening public conversation around a next-generation Official Plan), and hosting culture-shifting AoH practices in my Unitarian Congregation — work we have now taken national over the past year.
Where do you live/work?
Peterborough, Ontario, Canada
Are there interests/passions that you'd like to share?
Poetry, placemaking, neighbourhood-building, participatory leadership, narrating the transition we're making, generative governance, photography, canoeing, singing, ecophilosophy, nimble low-cost use of online communications tools.
