How did you learn about Art of Hosting (please add the date and place) and what attracted you to it?: Since the late 1990’s I have been a steward for a network (Creative Community Leadership Institute/ Institute for Community Cultural Development...) in which Art of Hosting practices are part of our “DNA” (practices like Open Space Technology, circle process, World Café…). I first connected with the Art of Hosting network in 2007 at ALIA Institute/Shambhala Institute for Authentic Leadership in Nova Scotia, where I have been on the faculty team since 2008.

Tell us about your experience with Art of Hosting as part of your life and work. What would you say your competence in it is? (new, starting practitioner, experienced practitioner, steward): Holding space for collective insight and action has been an essential pattern throughout my adult life. In my teens and twenties I lived in cooperative households and worked in cooperative organizations where I learned a lot about what is useful (and not so useful) for groups aspiring to live and work well together. By my thirties I was being asked to “facilitate” large-scale conversations to help communities in crisis find constructive ways to move forward. When I met up with the Art of Hosting network I was grateful to finally have a name for “the work that had no name”.

What is the primary field/topic/focus in your hosting work?: Leadership development and innovation. Also trans-sector dialogue (conversations around issues that cross conventional boundaries and silos of professions, communities, sectors, fields and/or cultures).

Where do you live/work?: I live in Minneapolis, Minnesota USA and I work in North America and Asia.

Are there interests/passions that you'd like to share?: • Integrating movement, somatic awareness, and kinesthetic learning modes into Art of Hosting
• Role of business in social change
• Neuroscience as a lens for understanding individual learning and group process
• Human Systems Dynamics
• Role of silence and contemplative practice in collective wisdom
• Mandarin Chinese and Indonesian languages
