Profile Information

How did you learn about Art of Hosting (please add the date and place) and what attracted you to it?
It was mentioned to me by an attendee at a meeting on business co-operatives. We were both interested in using the co-operatives as a means to facilitate community change and improvement.
Tell us about your experience with Art of Hosting as part of your life and work. What would you say your competence in it is? (new, starting practitioner, experienced practitioner, steward)
Looking at it I consider myself an untrained but necessarily an experienced practitioner. I come from a disadvantaged group but have managed my path fairly successfully in the 'privileged world sector' without having to compromise principles and authenticity because of early teaching (at home; in the community etc) of how to host others. I dare say that it is unconsciously practised and yet overtly known when persons from sharply disparate power relationships interact and there is to be a path away from conflict or antagonism or subjugation.
What is the primary field/topic/focus in your hosting work?
My hosting work would be action focused. It is around self-awareness and education at the community level about developing a methodology and behaviours to promote community good without having to deny individual rights but also ensuring that individualism does not chaotically and discordantly destroy community and lose us the benefits that community brings. One plus one in community can do much more than 2 acting separately.
Where do you live/work?
I am retired as a science educator and my work is living and making my presence a positive in Bermuda.
Are there interests/passions that you'd like to share?
To acclaim the survivors of disastrous human interactions ie man's inhumanity to man.
To value and acclaim those periods of improvement and enlightenment in social interactions in settings around the world.
To share knowledge about the organizations and behaviours that allowed the survival and the improvement periods acclaimed and to move to make these periods sustainable and the norm. It would be a re-setting of worldviews in society to universal fraternalism and away from the fcus on defining who is the other - - - by gender; by race; by sexual orientation etc when these are all socially constructed and so can be socially removed.
