How did you learn about Art of Hosting (please add the date and place) and what attracted you to it?
A friend of mine gave me the book, The World Cafe in 2012 and told me about the Art of Hosting. Up until that point I really enjoyed facilitating community discussions and used Open Space Technology. Art of Hosting training opened up a new world to me, like colors on a pallet for a painter. I was attracted to the power of finding the wisdom in the room and the magic of graphic illustrating.
Tell us about your experience with Art of Hosting as part of your life and work. What would you say your competence in it is? (new, starting practitioner, experienced practitioner, steward)
I have worked in visioning and public engagement in topics that heal the community and the environment. I enjoy creating the space where conversations that matter can take place. I especially enjoy convening and facilitating conversations with diverse community stakeholders. Sometimes that has taken the place of dinner parties in my home, sometimes in medium-sized pubic discussion groups and sometimes large regional forums. I continue to learn how to craft better questions, listen more deeply, connect people to each other and engage people in civic projects. I also enjoy graphic illustration as a sacred practice of hearing and honoring what is said in a community conversation.
What is the primary field/topic/focus in your hosting work?
Community development/sustainability/youth development.
