How did you learn about Art of Hosting (please add the date and place) and what attracted you to it?
My aunt, Hannie van der Windt, has been practicing the AOH already for years. With great enthusiasm, she has been telling me very often about her work in which she applies the theories of AOH. I became quite curious. She recommended the AOH training in Amsterdam in March 2015 to me, as it revolved around Societal Innovation, which is exactly what I’m currently occupied with.
I am co-founder of a youth movement that strives for just societies based on equality and fostered by intercultural understanding. We speak out against radicalism and exclusionism, both internationally and within our own societies, and seek to build bridges between different cultures and religions. Especially during these times of sectarian conflicts, polarization and tension within our societies, youth should be provided with tools in order to establish change in their own social environment. I am convinced that there is an urgent need for the new generation to engage in intercultural and interfaith dialogue, and therefore I think the practices of the AOH can be very useful. We are bringing together people with a very diverse background to engage in dialogue and cooperate in projects to reduce conflict. I am confident that the AOH theories and practices will contribute to establish a strong movement, to give a genuine voice to the opinions and ideas of everyone participating in the organization and to improve decision-making processes in a multicultural organization.
Tell us about your experience with Art of Hosting as part of your life and work. What would you say your competence in it is? (new, starting practitioner, experienced practitioner, steward)
I am new, and searching for opportunities to practice. I just had a training in March.
As mentioned in the paragraph before, I would like to use the art of hosting with the organization I'm working with.
