How did you learn about Art of Hosting (please add the date and place) and what attracted you to it?
I have been studying various texts by Maraget Wheatley for my MSW studies with the University of Calgary. I also was able to attend an hosting event coordinated through Providence Care in Kingston in Sept. 2011.
Tell us about your experience with Art of Hosting as part of your life and work. What would you say your competence in it is? (new, starting practitioner, experienced practitioner, steward)
I have had an interest in communty-based development efforts for most of my life. I have some limited experience with community efforts based on communities of identity through my work with the disability community in Toronto, Canada. I now live and work in a small rural community in Ontario and work as a Child Protection Worker. I am interested in ways of applying the Art of Hosting to my current work context. There are a number of collaborative efforts within this community and I believe the Art of Hosting can help to embellish the existing strengths in the community. As a practicioner, I am new to these ideas. I am a student and interested in learning more.
What is the primary field/topic/focus in your hosting work?
The area of interest for me are:
Rural Community Development
Where do you live/work?
I live and work on traditional Algonquin territory in the rural areas of Frontenac and Lanark Counties in Ontario, Canada.
