How did you learn about Art of Hosting (please add the date and place) and what attracted you to it?
From a friend, sept 2016. I've just completed the 3-day training in Amsterdam at Knowmads. I am committed to building a grassroots social movement in the UK as a way of achieving political change to bring about the change in paradigm that we so badly need.
Tell us about your experience with Art of Hosting as part of your life and work. What would you say your competence in it is? (new, starting practitioner, experienced practitioner, steward)
I've only just attended the training but am keen to learn more and apply the techniques and philosophy through my activities. I've been interested and involved in a number of organisations in Edinburgh and now the South-West and am particularly familiar with the Open Space technique. I'm hoping to directly engage my immediate community and link in with initiatives already in place locally (including through the Transition Towns movement and a project to rejuvenate county-level politics in Devon, helping to organise a gathering of up to 100 people). I've some experience of facilitating, and a lot of awareness of participatory initiatives and grassroots movements around the world, but little formal training so learning these skills will help me to contribute to achieving this goal.
What is the primary field/topic/focus in your hosting work?
I'm excited by the idea that a leader/host's role is to enable the collective wisdom of the community to emerge, and trusting that positive, constructive action will automatically follow from people feeling better about themselves and each other.
Where do you live/work?
Totnes
Are there interests/passions that you'd like to share?
As above but also improvised theatre, 5 Rhythms dance, and personal development.
