The Art of Hosting

While reading the initial harvest from the Kufunda gathering, I was struck by the power of the report of the constellation experience. It made me want to know more about that process. I see by looking through conversations here that Ria offered a one day session on Constellations in Essex in October. Unfortunately for me, in October I didn't have the question!!

So my questions are about where does this work come from? Is there some person who is most associated with it? How does one learn (besides from Ria's October workshop!) more about it?

I post it here on a suggestion from Ria, since there were two of us with questions after reading the Kufunda document -

Blessings and peace to all - Peggy

Sorry Peggy that it took me so long to answer your question, but I was hoping to write something specific to your question, but I will keep it to some references and an article I wrote for the Arts of Humans Being, a gathering that took place this summer (2010), also here on this site as a group.

Bert Hellinger, a german - now old - man is the one who started all this with what is called Family Constellations. If you Google his name, you will find a lot of references, and Wikipedia also names the controverses that are around him and what he says. The point is that Systemic Constellation work is deeply systemic. It has an understanding of how the system - either the family or an organisation or even bigger systems - have so much influence on us, but that we are not aware of it. Hearing or reading some of his quotes - out of this context and deep understanding - brings it easily to some controversy.

I use my own flavor of this systemic work Future Constellations, and I attach here the article that I wrote about it. In the Narrative of the Kufunda Gathering that Peggy is referring to here, you can also read some kind of report of the constellation that emerged there. There are more reports of it on my blog Seeds for a Happy Planet. Type Constellations in the search box and you will get a lot of postings related with it.

Normally, Family or Organisational Constellations are done in workshop with open enrolment. Trainings go in the same way, mostly over a year long period, or even longer.

If you have more questions, please ask! (I might still write something proper maybe?!)

Good morning, RIa - Thanks for this response - I was at the Art of Humans Being gathering in the summer, and somehow missed your piece on Constellations in the journal-book (and I looked there before writing! Hmmm-) Your information here in addition to the piece from the summer conference gives me starting answers to my question. Next I'll look at Seeds for a Happy Planet.

I am a minister in the Christian tradition (United Church of Christ), and deeply interested in systems work, also in using AOH and other insights in my work with congregations and a leadership program I direct. It's the leading edge of my work -

So - thanks again - Peggy
