How did you learn about Art of Hosting (please add the date and place) and what attracted you to it?
I had heard about some of the AOH practices in an oblique way but a conversation with a friend in Nova Scotia really sparked an interest. I decided to attend a retreat on Vancouver Island in October of 2009. Despite arriving exhausted and burnt out, I left feeling energized and open with many new ideas dancing around my head. I am still getting acquainted with the practice and am looking for ways to incorporate some of the learnings into my daily life and work.
What is the primary field/topic/focus in your hosting work?
Not yet, but I am becoming interested in the art of framing powerful questions and of hosting spaces that foster deep reflection and dialogue - not least for myself. As I deepen my understanding, I look forward to one day hosting others.
Where do you live/work?
I work in Calgary, Alberta
Are there interests/passions that you'd like to share?
I am interested in traditional culture and community. I come from the Scottish Gaelic communities of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island and have a keen appreciation of the power and value of story-telling, song, music and dance - not only as art forms but also as deeply important parts of community and identity and as natural and beautiful spaces that allow people to come together in meaningful ways. I would like to find ways to keep making these deeper connections in my life and work.
