Profile Information

How did you learn about Art of Hosting (please add the date and place) and what attracted you to it?
My first experience with the Art of Hosting was the training at the Chocolate Lake Hotel in Halifax, Nova Scotia, in September 2011. When I saw the announcement on the web, I was immediately drawn to the upbeat energy and innovative thinking I saw going on. I had a sense that this is what we need to help transform our world - a way to create the future, starting now!
Tell us about your experience with Art of Hosting as part of your life and work. What would you say your competence in it is? (new, starting practitioner, experienced practitioner, steward)
Since the training I attended in 2011, I have incorporated the Art of Hosting into much of my life, work, and volunteer activities. When planning a gathering of any kind, from a meeting to a conference to a community event, my view is informed by the principles and techniques I have encountered through my initial training and ongoing study. The concept of hosting has become an integral part of how I see everything I do - I am offering to help create a space in which people are welcomed and nurtured, a space in which collective wisdom, energy and delight emerge naturally.
What is the primary field/topic/focus in your hosting work?
I have incorporated the Art of Hosting into my work as culture and youth organizer with the Acadian schools in Nova Scotia. In addition, as volunteer coordinator of children's and family programming at Dorje Denma Ling, a Shambhala Buddhist retreat centre, I incorporate hosting into the programs we offer, such as Family Camp, Winter Family Gathering, and Spring Family Gathering. Another focus in my hosting work is the environment, as an active member of Truro's Living Earth Council.
Where do you live/work?
Truro, Nova Scotia, Canada
Are there interests/passions that you'd like to share?
I am particularly passionate about the power we have as human beings to transform our society at every moment. As the saying goes, "There's no time like the present!"
