How did you learn about Art of Hosting (please add the date and place) and what attracted you to it?
From Marc Levitte. It is so similar to the way I teach Philosophy using the technique of Community of Inquiry.
Tell us about your experience with Art of Hosting as part of your life and work. What would you say your competence in it is? (new, starting practitioner, experienced practitioner, steward)
I am an experienced practitioner of Community of Inquiry, as a Philosophy teacher, all my classes are run with students sitting in a circle and taking turns to speak. I teach the art of listening actively and respectfully. The values I work with are that everybody is equal and that everybody has the right to be listened to respectfully. I show my students that we actually create new learning together.
What is the primary field/topic/focus in your hosting work?
Teaching teenagers Philosophy and as a technique in dispute resolution.
Where do you live/work?
Dandenong High School, Melbourne Australia
Are there interests/passions that you'd like to share?
I am passionate about using communication as a tool to promote peace. I am studying a Master of Education and am doing research into the social injustice of standardised testing for literacy and numeracy. I am particularly interested in improving education for Indigenous Australians and in sharing Aboriginal culture and languages with mainstream Australia. Tapping into the native wisdom and opening it up so it can become a valued part of Australian education and therefore society. I am a honorary member of an aboriginal tribe in Yuendumu, Northern Territory of the Warlpiri people and have a "skin name"as part of their tribe: Nungarrayi.
