How did you learn about Art of Hosting (please add the date and place) and what attracted you to it?
Multiple ways: a) an international intern from Turkey working with us b) an employee invited to a training c) long-term circle practitioner friends/colleagues forwarded a link d) local host organization email
Tell us about your experience with Art of Hosting as part of your life and work. What would you say your competence in it is? (new, starting practitioner, experienced practitioner, steward)
It is difficult to claim the brand language of "Art of Hosting" - but a) I am a long term restorative justice and circle trainer and practitioner, b) I use my own "integrated, restorative dialogue" process in building consensus in my practice as a consultant and conflict resolution college teacher, c) I use the language of "holding space" "higher self" "harmony" "consensus" in my public participation processes with the public sector d) Angeles Arrien, Open Space, Circles, Transformative Mediation, Restorative Justice, collective wisdom and other words to describe and act on what I believe and what matters to me.
What is the primary field/topic/focus in your hosting work?
I don't know enough to understand this question. I do-provide culturally-based direct services, teach conflict resolution from a cultural context as center, work in collaboration with international organizations, supervise, train, and teach using what appear to be practices held in your language/practice. I started a nonprofit organization about 12 years ago based on some of the principles - the focus of that work is social justice defined as a) no disparity of access, participation or results b) relationships of mutual power and accountability, and c) non-violent (with a broad understanding of what is violence)
Where do you live/work?
Based in the Twin Cities of Minnesota - working in Canada, Kenya, Romania and both locally and nationally in USA
Welcome to the Art of Hosting community, Barbara! Glad to see you here! Please post a photo when you can so we can really "see" you here. Then join in with all the conversations. You'll find plenty of resources here, too, to help you deepen your practice. And the more you add to your profile, the more the community can learn from you and share with you. You might want to get in touch with Jerry Nagel -- who is also on the Ning -- to get in touch with what's happening in the twin cities area.
