The Art of Hosting

On Sunday, January 23rd, 2011 we had a wonderful reunion of local participants in last August’s transformational “The Art of Humans Being” gathering. Many of us who live locally were able to join together to explore “What has been moving through us and what is present now?”

In the past five months it seems many of us have been releasing very old beliefs and wounds to allow us to step fully into our lives.

Meeting together and sharing our stories collectively in such a safe space allowed us each to have caring witnesses to our process. The fact that we so rarely have this opportunity in our busy lives was echoed by many. What a gift it is to gather in this way.

Judy, “McHenry” and I co-created the day which was beautiful and rich. I brought the art supplies, shruti box and my guitar. I even sang a new song that I composed for this group to celebrate our stepping into the “new story”. Pictures of the day are posted here. And the video of the ‘world premier’ of my song is on YouTube! See the words to the "Humans Being Rag" at the bottom of this post.

I am so grateful for the women who gathered and for all the support we have from each other, the land, the delicious food and the spirit world. These are all important components of what makes our time together at the Essex Conference Center so special. Each time we meet like this I am nourished and reminded how important it is to sit together in community in these transformational times.

Thanks to all of the participants for being in the field. Let's get together again soon.

(2x)     we’re painting the new story
    we’re making the new story
    we’re living the new story today

    the ancestors say
    please come out and play
    it’s time to do whatever you can
    brush off those dreams and “be”
    release the doing please
    find solace in your truth today

(2x)     you’re painting the new story
    you’re making the new story
    you’re living the new story today

    the earth, she is sad
    she’s bordering mad
    she just wants us to stop and play
    she needs us to slow down
    to fin’lly come around
    to gather in our circles and pray

(2x)      we’re painting the new story
    we’re making the new story
    we’re living the new story today

    (joyful improv time)   la lai lai lai lai

    the ancestors say
    let beauty lead the way
    see everything as sacred as it is
    we are right here
    we’re whispering in your ear
    we ask that you just welcome us today

    Lai lai...

(2x)     we’re painting the new story

Dear Lisa, you are truly a bringer of joyous beauty.  Our sacred intention held from the beginning is still so present here.

And here is Lisa's "Brush Commitment" from our time last summer.

"I claim myself as an Activist Songwriter and Bringer of Beauty, and dedicate myself to Peace."

Do we see Lisa living this?  You bet!!

Oh my. Thank you, Judy. I couldn't do it without you!

As one of our participants said the other day, being with people who lovingly witness our process is such a rare gift. Thank you for the gift that you are.

Synchronistically I also heard from Suzanne Hoenig by email today.  She is at the Himalayan Institute in northeastern PA and speaking from the window onto a small town main street under many layers of snow.  Please tell us more Suzanne, as you like.

Here I want to include the poem she sent by the Irish poet John O'Donohue.  To me this speaks to the "coming out" or "stepping forward" that was so present last Sunday in our circle.  (also attached)

For a New Beginning

In out-of-the-way places of the heart,
Where your thoughts never think to wander,
This beginning has been quietly forming,
Waiting until you were ready to emerge.

For a long time it has watched your desire,
Feeling the emptiness growing inside you,
Noticing how you willed yourself on,
Still unable to leave what you had outgrown.

It watched you play with the seduction of safety
And the gray promises that sameness whispered,
Heard the waves of turmoil rise and relent,
Wondered would you always live like this.

Then the delight, when your courage kindled,
And out you stepped onto new ground,
Your eyes young again with energy and dream,
A path of plenitude opening before you.

Though your destination is not yet clear
You can trust the promise of this opening;
Unfurl yourself into the grace of beginning
That is at one with your life's desire.

Awaken your spirit to adventure;
Hold nothing back, learn to find ease in risk;
Soon you will be home in a new rhythm,
For your soul senses the world that awaits you.

~ John O'Donohue ~
