The Art of Hosting

Dear Friends,

I have been an observer on this list since participating in the AoH in Sweden last year and would now like to ask for advice/collaboration/ideas.

I am in my final year at the Kaospilot school in Aarhus, Denmark looking for a final project that makes a meaningful change in education.

For the past three years, I have been experiencing a school where personal development is equally important as professional development and now I want to help teachers, principals, and others involved in schools to do the same.

I know there has been talk within this community on shifting education systems and I now am diving in as well.  Much has been discussed about how schools/teachers/training should be and I would like to work with people or initiatives that are working to change things.

Please share if this sparks anything for you.

Love,
Lauren

One of the products for Future@School that I have brainstormed with KaosPilot Bieke back at the beginning of 2010 is a Teacher Leadership Conference based on Art of Hosting.
We never took this further...but maybe this is the time now..

Hey,

Check out this great video I came across: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VJWLn90XqVQ
The video is about using selfishness to achieve positive growth. The guy who did the video (Noam Kostucki) runs an organisation called Seeducation (www.seeducation.org).

The aim of this organisation is to "host the world's greatest thinkers, movers, shakers, concepts and practical lessons in education, and build a world where knowledge is shared openly, where teaching and training is given because people realise it will actually benefit themselves and everyone else."

I highly recommend their work and watching the video.

I will be working at a public school with Art f Hosting's spirit and metodologies in one of the prioritary schools in Brazil (lowest indexes measured by external evaluations), near São Paulo. This is part of my own journey, seeking for ways of providing good results and hope for people and professionals at public schools.

I will be pleased to share my impressions when the process is concluded (probably at the end of march).

Kind Regards,

Camila

On of the participants of YIP last year did a similar project. She made a video asking other participants about education: http://vimeo.com/12422572
She is now involved in a bigger project of shifting education in Australia, but will be back in Europe in April for the Initiative Forum @ YIP: http://initiativeforum.yip.se/
She was part of AoH Karlskrona 2010, so I guess you have met her! (Her name is Silvia Angel (blog: http://arwenangel.wordpress.com))

Camila,

Would love to here what comes out!

Fauke - I am excited to hear about your AOH in Education dialogue group.

I have been training teachers in AOH practices for the last 4 years in all types of education settings (from primary school to colleges) - for use in classrooms with students.  I have also been working on applying the underlying learning / neuro-cognitive principles to support of AOH in classrooms in a way that not only addresses improved curriculum learning but also as a means to develop an life, social, human capital skills.
The results of this work have been illuminating.  I see AOH technologies as core for the future as a way to creating exciting education and learning opportunities that clearly move away from the industrial model and look to developing the knowledge and skills that are needed for our future.
AOH technologies speak to the way the brain naturally learns.
I will look forward to our conversations and exchanges!
