Art of Hosting in Kenya invited a 3 Day Learning Journey in exploring ‘How to host and harvest meaningful conversations that matter to our communities’.  35 participants from Kenya, Somalia and Germany followed the invitation and co-created new pathways to the question "How will we collaborate to create safe spaces for healthy conversations among communities in Kenya, Somalia and beyond?"

Another update:

Michele and me hosted a 2 days AoH "Strategic planning" of the NGO Rafiki wa Maendeleo on the Lake Victoria. Uuuh I was first very nervous, but Michele said we just try something new and will see what is the outcome.....

and the 2 days were wonderful! What a great experience to learn and host at the same time. The final feedback of the people were the biggest gift to me - some examples:

It was a simple and easy way of strategic planning.

Best way ever to generate ideas!

It makes it very easy to implement and be proud to be part of this.

We shared like a family. We have a strong ground to move forward!

I liked the participatory approach and I can talk now about strategic planning without fear!

Thank you for giving us the dream for the next 10 years!

It was simple and stupid! It was the two most powerful days in Rafiki!

Sweet and fruitful strategic process

I am seeing the real Rafiki coming! During the two days everyone was giving ears and we were brothers and sisters.

Just short update:

The AoH practitioners and some curious friends had a "get together" on Friday, 13 Dec to keep the fire of AoH alive!

 

Michele, Re’em with her sister, Gawan with friend Msechu, and Bikundo came to the 3 o’clock tea. During sipping juice and tea we exchanged our first experiences with Art of Hosting tools in our jobs. Re’em used a World Café with her students and they liked it very much and would love to have more from it during lectures. Bikundo uses the circle and his favourite questions for check out is “What is the most powerful for you?”. Michele has used the philosophy of AoH in the meetings of her organisation Rafiki and will use AoH to guide the upcoming strategic planning. Gawan liked the feedback from the ProAction Café and found it helpful for his next steps and discussions with his thesis teacher. I shared the draft of the harvest document from Silas and everybody liked it very much. 

Afterwards we had discussions about development issues, political changes in Africa and other topics. During a heavy thunderstorm (it must have hit something in the neighbourhood) we continued talking and we planned to do the next gathering outside in the park soon in January. I suggested we use AoH tools to discuss one upcoming questions and invite others who are interested in AoH but could not come last time to the training.
