The Art of Hosting

Dear friends,

I just come out of a skype call with Hala el-Hawari. She (as millions of egyptians) has been in the core of the revolution since the first day. She has the intelligence to see the need that this movement needs hosting, and needs it NOW.

We explored ways of how WE coiuld help as a community.

One is, that she will contact the EU delegation in Cairo to set up a democracy training programme very fast.

A second is, that I could lobby in the EU to set up a volunteer group of EU officials trained in the Art of Participatory Leadership (Art of Hosting) to be ready for AoH training projects in Egypt.

The third is an invitation to THIS GROUP. Who is in to set up asap a Art of Hosting training in Cairo???

Warm regards to all,

Rainer

good morning Mary, exactly - for the time being, it is not yet clear where Egypt wants to go. However, majority of people is scared of the uncertainty. I am copying in a link to something a friend of mine wrote http://www.marymourad.com/column.htm

A similar initiative is on its way in Morocco, I have heard. Similar meaning something like listening to the people with all their fears and concerns, but with the goal of developing a guide for them on how to survive and how to build the country the way they want it to be. In the end, it is all about shelter, food, wellbeing ;-)

Thank you Ulrike for posting what Mary Mourad wrote; it moved me in ways I can not explain in words, my heart is full and my eyes are watery; not with sadness but with the intensity of the possibility and the compassion that we have to hold and carry to move with continued awareness in each step we take as this movement of change grows its stronger roots everywhere ....

I am very affected by language, and Ulrike although "shelter, food and wellbeing" are the essential firsts, in my personal opinion, it is not the end ...  as I just wrote to Mary Mourad

"This uncertainty is where access to our deeper intelligence and knowing can happen; This uncertainty is a place of chaos where what we have learnt and what wants to emerge are bundled up together … It is in this time of uncertainty, that we have to stay “patient’ as you say but with lots of awareness “sensing” and making sense of what is there and what wants to show up .. it is time to collect the stories that are in the Hearts of the people, we will find our answers there, as they learn to voice the questions that truly matter to them … "

I also feel that while the basics are being cared for, it is also the time to nourish the creativity of those who are available and ready, so that they can self-organize with others into the new that came through them ...

So, I feel that there are many levels, and they are all valid, and it will be great if all the levels are cared for and given attention to so that the whole will find its new operating system ...

In the regards, Mary Alice, I sense into what you say; yes, showing inspirational stories from around the world opens the mind and connects us to others who went through their own transformation; yes, at the same time my gut feeling at this present moment says the people of our region need to trust the inner gifts that they have through their own stories, knowing that they will make it not because others made it, but because they have it ... it is time for them to speak their stories and make their future-story (which I personally feel will only be complete with the other emerging stories) ....

Regarding the Art of Hosting; I have been applying the AoH practices with the Theory U Framework for a while here in Lebanon, and I have been adapting it through a creative design process to our culture, so that it can fit it and be responsive ... please allow me to say that I truly feel that for the AoH offering in our region to be successful in my opinion, it can not be applied the same way as it is in western cultural environments; there is a natural gift in the land and its people here that needs to be integrated into the practices and there are some capacities which we naturally miss and find ourselves going to the west to learn as that is where they are mastered ... so, from my personal perspective, I invite new relational dynamics into the AoH practices to respond to the movement in our region ...

Excuse me for this long message, my fingers were flowing and I was beyond thinking whether what I am writing is long, makes sense, is out of context, may be misunderstood ... I was just writing what was coming through me ...

With gratitude for this space of expression,

Kindly,

Hala

ah Hala, there you are ;-) I have been hearing about you ;-)

I'll be back to you directly after/while meeting one of the people involved in the local AoH proposal! we'll be meeting tonight around 6 or 7pm Egyptian time

sunshine, oh and yes, those three needs are the VERY basic ones, and are nothing if the rest isn't there, me thinks

Hello to you both -- and all others here!

Yes, these tender times of earth quakes and inner shakes need the strong holding of a field where all the stories are welcomed, listened to, deeply witnessed, given space to transform.  I love these spaces!  When we can hold such spaces with and for each other, that's where the magic happens!

The carpeted story tent of my imagination has a fire at its centre to warm us, and can be set up at any moment when we lean in together.

May the story unfold!

I think Belgium is also in search of the next story - we are right in the middle of a transformation! Almost 300 days after the elections and still no new government!

Hello everyone, just wondering if this did reach anywhere at the end?
