How did you learn about Art of Hosting (please add the date and place) and what attracted you to it?
Via Linkedin, from Fiona Savage, through the Unreasonable Learners Group
Tell us about your experience with Art of Hosting as part of your life and work. What would you say your competence in it is? (new, starting practitioner, experienced practitioner, steward)
This is the day after finishing Drymen training so I am a new learner. However, I feel that the underlying principles are in sync with the ones underpinning my own teaching & research work.
What is the primary field/topic/focus in your hosting work?
I am planning to use the AoH methodologies to 'operationalise' complexity/systems theory in the area of tertiary education.
At this point I am considering using AoH methodology to explore the role of emotion in education for my Masters dissertation.
Where do you live/work?
Live Newport-on-Tay, work Dundee
Are there interests/passions that you'd like to share?
I am currently working on a programme of learning offering a range of sessions such as resilience, mindset, mindfulness and metacognition. This programme is aiming to increase both the health & well-being and positive learning outcomes of Dundee & Angus College learners.
I have written theoretical pieces on the link between quantum physics & consciousness (1997) and community participation & integrated theory (2002), however I feel it is time to find ways of applying these understandings - see above. I am grateful for the the opportunities I have in my professional role to do this. I see AoH work potentially being both the map and tools to meaningfully engage with topics such as the links between well being and learning while bringing emotion & spirit, indeed the whole being. into the educational debate.
