How did you learn about Art of Hosting (please add the date and place) and what attracted you to it?
I first came across the Art of Hosting through Santropol Roulant- a youth-led community organization in Montreal, Canada that uses food as a vehicle for community transformation.
Tell us about your experience with Art of Hosting as part of your life and work. What would you say your competence in it is? (new, starting practitioner, experienced practitioner, steward)
I've been using Art of Hosting- related practices for the last 10 years, as a facilitator working mostly with grassroots community organizations in Canada. And more recently, I spent 6 months at Kufunda Village in Zimbabwe- a community that works to incorporate Art of Hosting into it's day-to-day life and shares it with partner communities. So I've had the benefit of being more of a participant than a host recently, which has been a great learning experience for me.
What is the primary field/topic/focus in your hosting work?
The core focus of my work now is to help social purpose organizations better align their internal practices with their larger social mission. In the context of Art of Hosting, I'm exploring ways that organizations can integrate and sustain the practices and spirit of hosting into daily organizational life so that they become a natural part of the organization's way of being in the world.
