Profile Information:

How did you learn about Art of Hosting (please add the date and place) and what attracted you to it?
I came into this community thanks to Ria Baeck, Judith Heezen and Lieven Callewaert back in February 2008 when I partook in the second iteration of Women Moving the Edge at Heerlijckyt. That was my first AoH "happening" and it changed my life ... I walked into this free of any expectations or objectives, beyond learning and discovering new paradigms. It is undoubtedly my unmitigated trust in these 3 people and my addiction to adventure that attracted me!
Tell us about your experience with Art of Hosting as part of your life and work. What would you say your competence in it is? (new, starting practitioner, experienced practitioner, steward)
I have grown with AoH as a "tutor" since March 2008 and it is now an integral part of the work that I do or at least touches the work I do in organisations. I have attended 3 subsequent enquiries and called the first AoH in French in Compiègne France along with my mates, Helga, Laurence and Nad in July 2010. This was a new birth for the French-speaking community which today is vibrant and calling for more! The journey continues...
What is the primary field/topic/focus in your hosting work?
As an interculturalist, I am opening my work as a result of the hosting practices. Rather than addressing the intercultural component as a "service to deliver", I invite participants to take responsibility for their development. I continue to bring my field competence. But my methods are participatory, the learning is co-created, participants take ownership and the changes are sustained. It's amazing what can happen when you turn the keys over to the the learners!
Where do you live/work?
Paris
Are there interests/passions that you'd like to share?
The potential in organisations when the essensial benefits of being happy are grasped.
New leadership paradigms.
Capturing and enhancing talent.

Hi Nancy and thanks ... this is so much fun! In some ways it is new, but mostly for me it feels like coming home. Play has been a dominant theme of my life, and so much of AoH is rooted in play-full-ness and attention to the energies which shift, converge, diverge and ascend as people do stuff together ... well, it just feels so good to know and find others who "see" and practice this as well. Much gratitude to Kathy Jourdain and Amanda Haché for inviting me. Thanks for the welcome, and any initial suggestions or advice please share. D

Merci pour l'accueil chaleureux ! I'm originally from Denmark, but spent many years in Los Angeles. So, I signed up for a few groups, including the francophone one, and I'll take a look around.

Re "vibrant public spaces" -- Here are some of my favorites in New York City:

    •     The High Line
    •     Bryant Park
    •     Union Square Park
    •     Madison Square Park
    •     Hudson River Park
    •     In the works: Times Square!

Article: Countdown to a New Times Square

    •     And of course: Central Park and Prospect Park
  • Robb Kushner

Definitely Quincy Market. Haven't been to Fenway Park, so can't comment on it.

Have been to the river walk in Providence and seen WaterFire, which was amazing - even in a light evening rain!

Basically, I define vibrant public spaces as areas where people like to hang out - alone or with others, enjoy themselves, converse and/or recreate. Usually outdoor, green spaces, but they can be indoors and not always so green.

I find it Interesting that Starbucks has integrated what are essentially public spaces into all of their shops with sufficient room for seating. To me, this is a significant trend in our society - much more so than the coffee, tea, and snacks that they serve!

  • Robb Kushner

Ah, Paris.... haven't been there, but someday..... I sure hope to.

Yes, in America we have relatively recently rediscovered the value of vibrant public spaces - something I suppose other societies never lost touch with.

  • Caroline Pensier

I presented OpenAgileAdoption (OpenAgileAdoption.com also 20min vid here http://www.infoq.com/interviews/dan-mezick-culture-game-2) in September in Paris (Global Scrum Gathering) and Quebec City in November (Quebec Agile Tour) so there is a strong French connection to this work. I return to France (pretty sure) in April to do workshops and conference speaking in Paris and Lyon. I welcome the opportunity to meet you there, or in CT (where I live) in August! Cheers, -Dan (www.DanielMezick.com)

Hello Nancy, many thanks for your welcome to the site here.  I look forward to reconnecting with lots of folk I have met over the years and finding new friends here.  I recently registered for the AoH Advanced Practice Course that starts next month, and thought I would connect here as well.

I noticed a slightly unusual message from a "Frank Kwabena" on my message board.  It looks like spam.  If you are the administrator for this site, could you perhaps take a look? Many thanks.

Look forward to connecting much further.

    Regards, Michael

Nancy, what a wonderful welcome and very nice piece of synchronicity! Thank you!

I tried emailing the whole aoh group yesterday with the WoTH Invitation for June. Sorry I hadn't realised I needed to sign up to the mailing list as well. Is it ok for me to resend that email or will it clash with the one I sent yesterday that is still pending approval?

    Bug hugs back times 10
