How did you learn about Art of Hosting (please add the date and place) and what attracted you to it?
A friend of mine told me about it in the fall of 2011. And then I heard about it when I was at a workshop called Ignite. I felt like I was meant to be there, it took place not far from where I live.
Tell us about your experience with Art of Hosting as part of your life and work. What would you say your competence in it is? (new, starting practitioner, experienced practitioner, steward)
I am very new. My competence is very fledgling. I have implemented a couple of the ideas in my classroom.
What is the primary field/topic/focus in your hosting work?
I am a teacher to Grade 6 students and my focus is to use some of the principles to shift the structure of my classroom to help me facilitate learning in a more inclusive way. I want my classroom to embody a power shift away from the teacher but I need some structure to help me make this happen.
Where do you live/work?
Ottawa, Westboro area. I work in the Hintenberg area.
Are there interests/passions that you'd like to share?
I am interested in social justice issues like equity in aboriginal education, raising awareness about the Indian Residential School system and the whole process of Reconciliation. I am passionate about canoeing, nature and the environment. I also enjoy using theatre and drama in my classroom.
